Sorry my blogs are a little out of order – was waiting on
wifi to post some, which we now have – YAY!
Saturday morning we woke up to
Laurie fixing us coffee and chocolate chip waffles since we spent the night at
her and Wes’ house Friday night. Can you
say SPOILED? Her waffles are THE BEST (I ate 3….). Anyway, after breakfast with them and praying
for each other, it was time to set everything up for Youth Day. This is another national holiday in Zambia
that falls on March 12th. Jamme,
Kailyn, Mal and I planned some fun activities; basically it was a field
day.
We divided the kids up into teams:
orange, yellow, white, and blue (my team!).

The teams on the field. Notice the cows casually strolling by. |
For the first event, they had to
spin around a bat 5 x, put on some of Papa Wes’ clothes, jump rope 5 x in them,
take them off and run back. You can
imagine how hilarious this was with the little kids attempting to run, let
alone jump, in XL clothing.

Second, they had to do a
wheelbarrow race – always fun to watch.

Emma wanted in on the fun |
Third, was the three-legged race. Their teamwork was amazing.

Lastly, they had to spin around the
bat TEN times then fill a cup with water and run it back to their team without
spilling it to dump on the next person’s head.
This lasted until one of the kids got too dizzy, so we took the bat out
of the equation.

Papa Wes then dumped water on their unsuspecting heads.
After that we had a water balloon
toss. The adults
competed as well. Each match ended with a
tie, but in the reigning champs, Papa Wes and
Elizabeth (Mama Liz), won the championship, again.

Caedmon and Misheck were awesome |

Aaaaaaand Mal and I are out |
I have to say, the highlight of the
day was the water dunk. Blu rigged a water-dumping
apparatus up and all the kids got to throw balls at the target to dump water on
their house mothers and/or teachers heads.
They loved it and the water was COLD.

All in all, it was a VERY fun day with games all morning and Kids Club that afternoon. These kids never lose their energy and I just pray for the strength to keep up.
I love you, O Lord, my strength. Psalm 18:1
